Welcome to the new webpage for the project “Getting Wasted With Old Friends and New Foes: The Microbial Ecology of Sea Star Wasting Disease” which is based at Cornell University’s Department of Microbiology. This project follows on from a previous investigation of the potential causes of sea star wasting disease in 2013 – 2014, and will focus on the role of pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms in what is now the most extensive marine disease ever recorded! This site has been set up to communicate exciting developments and to show you how we are doing what we do to understand this disease. In the future, you will find video clips of our method developments and experiments, details on our upcoming expeditions to the Aleutian Islands, and our research cruise in the Puget Sound. You can also find here links to other projects taking place that are related to the wasting disease, including monitoring efforts to understand how the disease has changed nearshore ecosystems. Stay tuned!
